Requirements and Process to apply for Visa D, Permanent Residency and Passport:


  • Apply for a so-called Visa D. An in-depth compliance is being conducted by the Bulgarian authorities. Visa D allows entry to Bulgaria for further steps.
  • Setup/purchase a Bulgarian company, prove operations.
  • Apply for permanent residency ID.


Note: The permanent residency ID has a first validity of one year. It may be prolonged.


  • Six months after the issuance of the ID, you may apply for a Bulgarian passport.




  • Unrestricted right to live, work and study in Europe
  • The Bulgarian ID allows living and travelling without limits within Bulgaria and all applicable Schengen jurisdictions.
  • A Bulgarian passport can be obtained with similar benefits regarding living and travelling like the ID.
  • Once you’ve obtained a passport, you may terminate the operations of the Bulgarian company as it is no longer necessary.
  • Right to own real estates in Bulgaria and other members of the EU/Schengen.
  • Various rights to access the education systems of Bulgaria and the member states of the EU (including to pay fees at “home/EU” rates at institutions of higher and further education, to receive student loans and financial assistance).
